Episode 2: Samadhi
In October 2020, the year of the first lockdown, the World Health Organisation published surprising reports on Metal Health Day: Meditation become hugely popular due to the lockdown. People who are constantly stressed in today's society, largely due to ever-improving technology, are turning to age-old methods to calm their minds. People seem to have realised that meditation is a great practice to stop the mind from running. In this second episode of L’Intermonde, we explore the even deeper realm after meditation: Samadhi.
Samadhi derives from Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism and is a state of being which can be attained when one goes beyond extremely deep meditation. It is the final step on the yogic path from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. During Samadhi, you lose all sense of individuality and your mind is freed from any activity. The realm can be compared to a wholeness experience, a climax, ecstasy or blissful peace. Yet, don’t be fooled: the journey towards Samadhi is a life-long quest without guarantee. Though that does operate as an obstacle for those who are consider themselves spiritual or religious - the path is fulfilling in itself.
